- Aurangzeb was an orthodox Sunni Muslim. His personal life and austerity won him the support of the Muslim clergy.
- I forbid the building of temples. I re-impose Jiziya on all Hindus.
- Jats of Mathura revolted under Zamindar of Tilpat, and Satnamis revolted too. They were peasants. Emperor had to come in person and stop them.

- Sikhs were discontent due to religious policies. Guru Tegh Bahadur was captured and taken to Delhi. He was given the option to embrace Islam or to face death. He was beheaded upon refusal. Mughals attacked fort of Anandpur, captured the two sons of Guru Gobind Singh, and bricked them alive as they refused to embrace Islam.
- Then Mewar and Marwar will join hands and crush the Mughals!

- Meanwhile, the Marathas had become sufficiently powerful. Shivaji was their capable leader. He captured several fortresses. In 1674 he was crowned as an independent King. He was glorified with the title Chhatrapati.
