Storyboard Text

  • Exposed (Chapter 12)
  • Zzzzzz
  • Egress (Chapter 13)
  • If you add an s to this word, you get "Egress", which means "the way out" or "the exit".
  • Instructions for Egres
  • Not a Tunnel (Chapter 14)
  • BOAT
  • The way out is the river!!!
  • *GASP*
  • Instructions for Egres6. Usi opes, loweter. Head dow st . Us paav cks and assist over rap .
  • This scene, which is in chapter 12, is when Doon is able to open a locked door in the Pipeworks and finds the mayor sleeping in there on a chair with boxes of goods and an abundance of food surrounding him. Doon finishes his job early and wants to know what is in tunnel 351. He finds a key in the door lock and succeeds in opening it, just to find the mayor sleeping in the middle, on a chair in a room filled with a ton of useful supplies that he was hiding from the citizens of Ember. Doon was so staggered, so he told Lina. This scene is momentous because it helps the plot escalate, and it pretty much is the scene that motivates Lina and Doon even MORE into trying to save their city before it’s too late.
  • The Successful Start (Chapter 17)
  • Doon, hold on!!!!
  • This scene, which is in chapter 13, is when Clary deciphers the word "egress" from the instructions paper. Lina brings Clary over to Mrs. Murdo's house (where she lives) after leaving Harken Square with Doon so that she can show her the instructions. Clary deciphers the word "Egres" from the instructions paper and explains its meaning to Lina. She tells her that it's not a person's name, but it would mean "the way out" or "the exit" if you added an "s" at the end of it. This scene is a major scene because it opened up the path for Doon and Lina's way out of Ember as it helped them realize that there was a rock labelled "E" in the Pipeworks which stood for "Egress" or "Exit" and which would probably lead to the exit out of Ember.
  • A Whole New World (Chapter 18)
  • Here it is! It's here! There's a path!!!
  • This scene, which is in chapter 14, is when Doon and Lina discover that the exit out of Ember is the river. Doon tells Lina that he found the letter "E" on a rock at the edge of the river in the Pipeworks, so they both sneak into there. Lina and Doon follow what the instructions paper says, and they face a lot of obstacles as they climb down the ladder, end up on a ledge next to the riverbank, and then reach a hall that leads them to a room with a metal boat, candles, lighters, and paddles. They end up figuring out that the exit out of Ember is down the river, but not from a tunnel, which startles them. I believe that this scene is significant because it is literally leading to the complete solution for all the citizens of Ember who have been continuously facing shortages and all the other issues in the city.
  • Trapped (Chapter 20)
  • Huh???
  • Where are your masks? Who even are y'all?
  • This scene, which is in chapter 17, is when Doon and Lina successfully lower the boat into the river. Doon and Lina (with Poppy) all fortunately make it to the Pipeworks after being chased by the guards, and are set for their river journey to the safe, “new” city. I think that this scene is important because it is what led Doon and Lina into discovering all about where they originally came from and the whole story behind Ember. In addition, this scene is what led Doon and Lina into saving their city.
  • SWOOSH
  • This scene, which is in chapter 18, is when Lina discovers a path that leads to a whole new world at the end of the river journey. When the river gets much smoother and becomes unnoticeable, Doon and Lina figure out that the river ends there, so they decide to explore what comes after that. Lina decides to climb up the rocky slope at the end of the river to discover what comes after it, and that’s when she comes across a wide path with a high ceiling and a smooth floor that leads to a secure, green world filled with natural wonders. I think that this scene is remarkable because it is literally the ingress/entrance to the new city that Lina and Doon will end up in. Also, the path that Lina finds in this scene is a very significant plot device as it helps move the story forward.
  • This scene, which is in chapter 20, is when Doon and Lina make it to the "new" city and find a person in there who was mentioning a "pandemic". When Lina and Doon finally arrive at the "safe and sound" city, they expect it to be empty and quiet, but instead, they find a girl named Yara who was wearing a strange piece of clothing on her face that she called a "mask". Puzzled and very confused, Doon and Lina asked her how she got here and if there were any other people. Yara explained that there was a pandemic going on, so a large group of people came in to settle in this land to get away from the virus, and everyone was "quarantining" at home to stop the spread of it. This scene is important because it teaches Lina and Doon about how the world actually is and what it's like in their original homeland at the moment.
