- Powerful warrior-king, Shaka, brutally conquered neighboring tribes and revolutionized the warfare and weaponry in the coastal to near interior region, causing an outburst of a militaristic and unified kingdom to what is known as the Zulu kingdom by the 1700s

- The Zulu Kingdom gained world fame during and after the Anglo-Zulu War and initially defeating the British at the Battle of Isandwana (1879). However, Britain annexed Zulu (1887), though still earned a reputation regarding their warfare and militaristic skills

- The Zulu Kingdom is too independently unified!!! We need to suppress them to get more territory!!!!
- December 1878: Frere issues an ultimatum to Cetshwayo that the Zulu Kingdom should not provoke war and dismantle their strengthening military system. Not meeting the ultimatum, the Zulu Kingdom was soon invaded by the British under the leadership of Lord Chelmsford.
