- This is going to be great!
- Hello, fellow audience. I am going to share some interesting facts about some important monuments relevant to our nation. These monuments are significant to the nation that we live in today.
- George Washington, our first president came up with the brilliant and marvelous design of a large rounded dome to overlook the city. Also, the building is over 200 years old, first being constructed in 1793. The people who worked on this building were very successful, for according to Romans 13:1-7 explains that you should value, follow, and respect your government by following its laws and abiding by its requirements.
- This is the Capitol Building, a place that contains the House of Representatives, the Library of Congress, and is the symbol of the Capitol of the United States. It is so incredibly massive that it is 5 stories tall and has over 600 rooms.
- Woah, that is a massive building!
- That's interesting.
- It paid off making such a large monument. The people who created the White House were very successful. According to Proverbs 10:4, "A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes (one) rich." Working hard pays off.
- Even though it is where the president lives, George Washington didn't live there. Also, Philadelphia made its own White House as an attempt to keep the White House in Pennsylvania. Also, the British burned the building, so not much of it remains.
- Hello everybody. We are now at the White House, the place where the president resides.
- This is so fascinating! I am learning so much! I never would have known that the first president didn't even live here!
- I've been waiting so long to come here! Abraham Lincoln is my favorite president! It is great to know more about a former president.
- We are now at the Lincoln Memorial, a monument in place for the honor of Abraham Lincoln. It is a massive building featuring a large statue of Abraham Lincoln. The statue is 19 feet high and is densely heavy. The memorial is 190 feet wide, 118 feet long, and 99 feet tall. There are 87 steps on the monument due to the "Four score and seven (87) years ago", the beginning of the Gettysburg Address, a speech spoken by Abraham Lincoln.
- According to Matthew 20:25 - 28, you must serve one another to be excellent leaders. Abraham Lincoln displayed this very well, seeing that he was successful.
- This is the Vietnam Memorial. It is listed with the names of the veterans in the Vietnam War. It is in alphabetical order, containing thousands of names. One end points towards the Washington Monument while the other end points to the Lincoln Memorial. The memorial was officially dedicated on Veterans Day of 1982. Although white stone was wanted to be used for the monument, architect Maya Lin used a darker stone.
- According to Romans 8:18, some negative things can result in a greater good. The fall of these soldiers is for the security of our nation.
- Truly a lot was sacrificed for our country. I guess I should be grateful that I live in such a great nation.
- This is the Jefferson Memorial, Originally a memorial for Theodore Roosevelt, the Jefferson Memorial is actually made up of landfill from the Potomac River. It is great that leftover materials are still being put to good use. Also, the memorial contains a large bronze statue that is 19 feet tall and weighs 5 tons!
- Matthew 6:32 - 33 States that faith in Jesus will reward you with everything you need. If you are faithful to him, you will be rewarded.
- This memorial is quite interesting. It was a smart investment that brought honor to president Jefferson.
- Of course! He was a faithful Christian and followed God's instructions. According to Ephesians 5:21, every person should be counted as equal.
- We arrived at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. We come here to honor his legacy of persistence of freedom and equality. The monument was originally intended to be made of pink granite. It even took 2 years to carve the words featured on the memorial. Also, the memorial was intended to fit the theme of his "I Have a Dream" speech.
- Yes, Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man who spread the ideology of freedom amongst all.
- It's comforting knowing that these veterans did not die without a cause and are not forgotten.
- 1 Peter 5:5 - 10 explains that it is important to honor your elders and to be kind and considerate. This is an excellent connection in our lives to remember why our families are so important.
- We are at Arlington National Cemetery. We honor the people who gave their lives for our country. There are over 300,000 veterans honored here today, and the numbers keep growing. What is interesting is of all the presidents, only two presidents were buried here. Since attempting tomb robberies in 1937, the tombs were guarded 24/7. It is good to know that these people have the proper respect. We are fortunate to have a great government to keep control in our country and keep us safe.
- It's cool to know that these memorials are connected to the same theme; the prosperity of our nation.
- Matthew 15:12 - 13 connects to this very well. God's commandments are to love one another as he has loved you. Jesus said that there is no greater love than laying one's life down for another.
- Welcome to the Korean War Memorial, where the veterans of the Korean War are honored. These 19 statues represent diversity in cultures and ethnicity. Also, 14 of them are soldiers, 3 are marines, 1 is a sailor, and the last one is a pilot. Millions of Americans served in this three-year period of the Korean War.
- This is quite a marvel. There was a lot laid down for our prosperous nation. It is important that we have an opportunity to be able to honor what made our nation what it is today.
- The soldiers who fought valiantly brought their all to ensure that we were safe and prosperous. Ephesians 6:10 - 20 explains the traits that we can obtain through Jesus and his commands for us. These people lived in such ways, even in the face of their fears.
- We are now at the World War 2 Memorial. Obviously, we honor the veterans of this war. These pillars add up to 56, each representing the unity of America during World War 2. The memorial stands here for the American spirit.
- I'm just glad that most people made it out alive and that we can remember this as a time when people were willing to lend a helping hand. I've learned from Hebrews 13:16 that it is always beneficial to lend a helping hand and help people in need.
- This is the Pentagon, known as one of the places where 9/11 took place. This place is one of the largest office buildings. We are here not just to visit the building, but to look at the events of 9/11. After such a destructive day, 1.8 million tons of rubble and wreckage had to be cleared. It is unfortunate that such an event had to take place, but it is respectful to be able to be here and honor those who lost their lives and struggled here. The event took up a total of 8 months to clean up! A fun fact about this event is that Michael Jackson was actually involved in the events of 9/11.
- As the people of Amish Country lived there, they wanted to remain faithful. According to 1 Corinthians 4:2, you must prove that you are faithful.
- We are at "Amish Country", home to Protestant Christians who live simple lifestyles. This place is significant to our country because this was where William Penn, a very faithful man, settled. He sought religious freedom and earned it. The people of the Amish Country spoke mainly in German, but it was referred to as Pennsylvania Dutch. The Amish Country is different compared to other locations or monuments, but it is still significant to the formation of our country.
- It's cool to see how the smaller things that we don't notice very much can place such an impact on our nation. It's crazy how one small town can be so significant.
- Conclusion
- This map behind me contains the Washington Mall and the majority of Washington DC. Washington DC can be found between Virginia and Maryland. It is not in a specific state; rather it is between Virginia and Maryland.
- The people that we honor at these monuments helped shape history and changed the world. These people deserve honor and respect for their services and contributions for our country.
