- The answer to your question Andrew is chemical reactions. Elements react with one another to bring rise to other substances that are more useful. There are 6 types of reactions: synthesis reaction, decomposition reaction, single displacement reaction, double displacement reaction, combustion reaction, and acid-base reaction.
