Jason goes to Pelias in hope of receiving the right to the thrown, but instead Pelias replies that Jason should first accomplish a difficult task of retrieving the golden fleece from Colchis. If Jason is to complete this task he will claim his place on the throne.
Jason, with the helps of the gods, assembles a great team of heroes to accompany him on his journey. The group faces multiple adventures, tasks, and test together on their way to Colchis, however Jason knows that he will have to accomplish this last test on his own.
Jason arrives at Colchis and asks for the golden fleece. He is rejected at first, but is promised the golden fleece if he can complete a series of nearly impossible tasks.
Medea the daughter of the king of Colchis has fallen under the spell of the gods and is now in love with Jason. She offers to help Jason conquer each task if she would be his wife. They both fall in love with each other.
Medea has now betrayed her family by helping him retrieve the golden fleece. They both escape Colchis and take the golden fleece back to Pelias in hope of being given the thrown. However Jason is not given the thrown and they are chased out of Iolkos.
Now that Jason has left Iolkos, he has no chance of becoming king so as a last resort he leaves Medea to marry a princess so that he should be king when her father dies. This leaves Medea very angry.
