  • One major theme of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is violence does not solve problems. One example is when Charlie shoots Pete van horn because he thought it was the monster which leads to the situation getting worse and an innocent man has to lose his life because of Charlie's rash actions and nothing ended up getting solved . Though if they had thought it through Pete Van Horn might have still been alive. Also after Charlie shoots Pete van horn they all start grouping up on Charlie and they even tackle him to the ground, they also end up throwing a rock at him causing him to bleed from the head. Though this didn't solve anything, it actually ended up making the situation worse and more problematic. They hurt Charlie and yet they still hadn't figured out who the alien was. Another example is when they start destroying each other 's properties and injuring each other now they really make the problem worse because they start killing each other without anything to go off on and they also don't even find out who the aliens are. They completely ignored the fact that they have known these people for a while they turned on each other at the first hint that anything might be going wrong in their picturesque little town. In conclusion the theme of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is that violence doesn't solve problems.
