- Before we head back to class for the test, can any student define psychotropic drugs ?
- A psychotropic drug is a type of drug that changes the mood or emotion of an individual. it is used for the treatment of persons suffering from mental conditions such as Depression, Schizophrenia, Bipolar and ADHD (Barron. S, 2019)

- Individual diagnosed with schizophrenia talk to themselves, show changes in how they attire themselves and battle with different voices in their head, they have a frequent association with a profound negative effect on individual education and social function(Barch, D. M. 2019),

- Parekh (2017) posits that depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home. Brain chemistry may contribute to an individual’s depression and may factor into their treatment. For this reason, antidepressants might be prescribed to help modify one’s brain chemistry (Parekh, 2017)
- Oh yes indicka, and that Bipolar disorder gives a false impression to oneself and the world, but mood stabilizer treatment treats and prevent (mania) and lows (depression) which helps the individual to cope at work, school and in their social life(Goldberg, J. 2018). Antipsychotic drugs can be taken alone or with a mood stabilizer to help in the symptoms of mania and these drugs are, Haloperidol, Loxapine, and Risperidone (Goldberg, J. 2018)
- ConclusionAccording to Baron. S, 2019, Psychotropic drug changes the mood or emotion of an individual. There are four different types of psychotropic drugs; mood stabilizers, stimulants, anti-depressants and anti-psychotics. One specific disorder that is treated with psychotropic drug is Schizophrenia. These types of drugs is not a cure, it is simply used to lower the symptoms and help individuals to function appropriately. Another type of psychotropic drug is antidepressants, this is used in cases of depression. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or lack of interest in activities. Bipolar disorder is a mental disorder in which doctors use mood stabilizers to offset the constant mood swings and regulate one's ability to function in everyday setting.
- idrugs such as antipsychotics help to lower the symptoms individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia allowing them to function more appropriately, but these antipsychotic drugs don’t cure schizophrenia or ensure that there are no more psychotic episodes(Clarke, J. 2019)
