- The instant I said that, it was incredible! Everything around me became quiet, the ground stopped shaking, there was no noise, except for my breath and thoughts
- I could see the lights and smoke of the explosion so I knew it wasn't over, but I felt...safe. Like there was an angel with his wings around me, and everything was far away. I couldn't believe it. When the explosions finally stopped and I felt the veil lift. I looked up out of my trench. All the trenches around me were collapsed, I could see shards of wood impaled in the mud, craters, but all around me was a circle of untouched ground.
- An officer's wife, called the wives of the men in the camp to tell them that their husbands had died. Your Grammie was Inconsolable.
- In Vietnam it could be days before you could call somebody, it took several days, all of which Grammie thought I was dead. Finally, I got a call.
- I didn't know that Grammie had been told I was dead, So I didn't know why she screamed when I called. She told me through the tears. She cried and cried. I laughed...she didn't laugh but I laughed.
- We're still happy to this day.
