- We meet Judson and other characters (Mabel and Alec) while the setting is told to us. We also learn about his special closet.
- Climax
- Judson's wife (Mabel) finds out that Judson is planning to murder a thief that stole some of his liquor last winter.
- Falling Action
- Mabel tries to convince Judson not to poison the thief but fails, so she stops trying to convince Judson in dismay as he leaves the rat poison bottle by the closet.
- Resolution
- Judson is going to get ready to meet Alec, but trips over a nut when he tried to get his hunting boots outside. He hits his head on the table.
- Judson wakes up semi-conscious on Alec's arm. He hears "a kindly voice" in which the voice says what happened after he fell, and offers him a drink.
- he has a question mark for his face because we don't know what they look like because it only says "a kindly voice"

- Judson doesn't realize that he's drinking the rat poison bottle and presumably dies.
