  • Hmm... I've been really itchy lately, and my skin has started to burn
  • My knees have also been in pain, and started to swell up.
  • Now what is this rash on my hand! I should go to the doctor.
  • Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks healthy skin cells , and affects the growth cycle of skin cells. There are many types of Psoriasis, and more diseases related to it. However, the most common type of psoriasis is Plaque Psoriasis, which is when skin cells start to build up, and leave dry, red, and scaly patches that can itch, burn, crack, and bleed. This is the type of Psoriasis my character has, along with Psoriatic Arthritis.
  • Sir, you have Psoriasis. But don't worry, I have a list of changes you can make to keep symptoms as minimalized as possible.
  • What's going on?
  • Psoriatic Arthritis is another form of Psoriasis. This type of Psoriasis affects the joints and areas around the joints. There may be swelling, stiffness, and irritation around joints, such as knees, fingers, elbows, etc. Joints can also be in pain, and can make it difficult to do simple tasks and activities. About 3% of adults in the U.S.A. have Psoriasis, which is about 7.5 million people.
  • This brand feels the best more my skin. And all the other changes were really helpful too!
  • Psoriasis can also have triggers, and flare-ups. Just like allergies, and other similar diseases like eczema, certain substances and conditions can cause Psoriasis to worsen. For example, dry environments, certain hygiene products, and foods can trigger or cause your Psoriasis to flare-up. A trigger for this character is sweat and dietary choices.
  • There's no shame to being in pain! There's no shame to being in pain!
  • Going to the doctor is extremely important, because they can then refer you to a dermatologist, who can then treat Psoriasis. Otherwise, symptoms could worsen. As a matter of fact Africans, Asians, and Native Americans are 40% less likely to see a dermatologist for their psoriasis than Caucasians. However, Caucasians are more likely to get Psoriasis than other ethnic groups. Also, people 15 or older are more likely to get Psoriasis. However, males and females have and equal chance of getting it. Psoriasis is also strongly linked to heredity. So if you have Psoriasis, there is a possibility someone you know has it too.
  • After being diagnosed, I would be helpful to find out what triggers your Psoriasis, and when it flares up if it seems to coordinate with the weather. Also, making dietary changes could also help, along with finding good moisturizing products that personally work for you. Psoriasis is also NOT CONTAGIOUS. Therefore, you can't get Psoriasis if you touch someone who does.
