Storyboard Text

  • Velazquez order Cortes to fight the Aztecs for the land of Mexico
  • Cortez set sail with 580 soldiers and 1oo sailors on board with 11 ships.
  • Cortez and his men soon arrived near Tabasco where chiefs rushed to give him presents.
  • Upon arrival, he declared that he was no longer under Valesquez's orders
  • He was met by this woman called Dona Marina who translated and understood Cortez's local language.
  • Cortes agreed to meet the ruler of Tenochtitlan, Montezuma.
  • The Spaniards were then led back to their rightful quarters.
  • Cortez spoke through Dona Maria suitably. He then placed a crystal necklace around Montezuma.
  • A week later, Cortez captured Montezuma as he heard rumors that the Aztecs were planning to fight them.
  • The Aztecs chief did nothing to help Montezuma because they can only work on his wishes. Montezuma thought that Cortez was connnected to a way of return for Quetzalcoatl as priests believed he would return some way.
  • Montezuma gave up all the gold and other precious treasures of the kingdom as he was afraid of the strangers' guns.
  • when the men tried escaping the island, the Aztecs burnt their ships and blocked the river root they came from.
  • three tense weeks had past and Cortes returned with 1300 Spaniard, 4000 Tlaxcalan warriors and 96 horses.
  • Alvarado, the man Cortez left in charge of the city, then took Montezuma, holding a knife to his breast, ordering for him to tell his men to put down their arms, which they all obeyed.
