- Bruno meets up with Shmuel after talking with Maria and gives Shmuel food even though he ate some of it

- After meeting with Shmuel, Bruno talks about how Pavel helps him with a injury and how he told Bruno that he was a doctor before coming to Germany. He also tells Shmuel how Pavel is from Poland and how Shmuel would know but he doesn't.

- Bruno tells Shmuel how he wants to become a soldier like his father and Shmuel doesn't really like the idea of it.
- Lieutenant Kotler. He scares me.
- Bruno tries convincing Shmuel that not all soldiers are bad, like for example his Father.
- Bruno talks about his sister about being a hopeless case to Shmuel.
- When Bruno starts to talk about Lieutenant Kotler, Shmuel doesn't like talking about him and tells Bruno that he is scared of Lieutenant Kotler
