- Hey dad, we have a transfer student from England and they kept talking about how they had a Queen and didn’t get why we have a President. Why do we have a president instead of a king or queen?
- Well son, you see we Americans believe no one person should be able to control America so they split the powers up between 3 branches of government.
- Ohh, but what do tree branches have to do with anything?
- Oh you’re so silly, son. A man named Monsquieo believed in the separation of powers which led to him creating the 3 branches of government. The branches are like different parts or groups of the government.
- That's cool, what does each branch do?
- Anyways, we’ll finish this another time. Go play and have fun, son!
- The legislative branch makes the laws of the United States, controls all of the money, and has the power to declare war. The executive branch has the president's powers including, enforcing laws, vetoing bills, making treaties, appointing judges, etc. The Judicial branch is the power of the supreme court.
