Storyboard Text

  • I'm so excited to leave this place!
  • First, I have to check your bag.
  • Uh Oh...
  • What's this?
  • Yes...
  • Are you aware that this is a prison copy and you are not allowed to take it home?
  • At the security section before leaving jail, Jack Gantos is getting his clothes and suitcase checked in order to make sure that he has no weapons or any other harmful objects that he is taking out into the world with him.
  • I could pay for it! Please may I take it home with me?
  • Hmm.....
  • The security guard finds a prison copy of a book in Jack's bag. This book had happened to be the diary in which he had written all of his experiences in. With this diary, Jack Gantos had plans to make it a book and share his experiences with the world.
  • No! I will not go against my duties. I cannot let you take this home with you.
  • The security guard warns jack that it is indeed a prison copy of the book and that he cannot take it home. Devastated, Jack understands. But, he is determined to take it home with him.
  • Fine!
  • Other than this book, it looks like you are good to go!
  • Suddenly an idea pops into his head, Jack begs and pleads that he will in fact pay for the copy so that the prison can afford a new one. The guard is confused and a bit skeptical.
  • The guard makes up his mind and strictly refuses to let Jack take the book home with him.
  • Understanding that this is the last time he will see this book, Jack is filled with a variety of emotions. He is sad that this is the last time he will see that book, and he is angry because the guard would not let him take it home with him. Yet, he looks forward to writing about his experiences all over again and he thinks that he can teach some serious life lessons to the future readers of his books.
