My name is Joel. I'm a Correctional Officer at the NYC correctional facility. I typically make up at 5am and leave t.he house by 5:30 to arrive to work.
hmmm, Where could they be hiding something???
Once I arrive to work , 1st thing I do in the morning is get breifed from the officer on the previous shift and do a headcount to start the day. After wards, the inmates will proceed to do their morning cleanup around 7:45am. Once that's finished they'll also get their medications
Sarah: Did anything out of the ordinary happen today?Joel: Nope . Everything was fine during my shift.
When 11:35 Rolls around, it's time for lunch . I'll have everybody line up, and they'll be passed a tray. It's also during this time wher I eat a small lunch as well
Now it's time for the afternoon shakedown . It's currently 2:13pm . Ideally , I'm looking through the innmates items looking for contraband or anything that they are not authorized to have. That can mean drugs , weapons , medications, etc. This is the most dangerous part of the day. I may come into contact with -personal fluids, or a possible hidden bomb
It's officially time for their last meal of the day . Dinner . We start dinner at 4:45 . The same system of rules apply before. After dinner ,the last thing I need to do is breif the next officer who comes in on the events that happened today, and my shift is over.
Whew. What a successful day at work!!!. I got off today at 6pm. So a nice 12 hour shift. Lets go home to get some sleep so I can wake up bright and early at 5am to do it again.
