Storyboard Text

  • My fathers knights outside are too rowdy! We have to get them to leave by any means, disobey them and be rude!
  • And tell my father I'm sick if he asks.
  • Yes, maam.
  • Duke OfAlbany's Palace
  • Duke OfAlbany's Palace
  • Great! You shall serve me!
  • What fools, maybe I should give you guys my joker hat. One has just given up their land and power, and the other is trying to serve the one who gave up his power!
  • Duke Of Albany's Palace
  • I will only let you stay if you remove some of your knights! They have been too out of control!
  • How dare you say this! I regret giving you my land! Become Infertile! Or get a child that makes your life hell!
  • Fine! I'll just stay with my only good daughter, Regan!
  • As part of Lear's retirement, King Lear and his knights are staying with Goneril; however, Goneril is disturbed by the rambunctious and undisciplined behaviour that the knights are exhibiting, so in an effort to get them out of the palace, she seeks a confrontation by getting her servants and her suitor, Oswald to be rude to the knights.
  • O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven! Keep me in temper; I would not be mad! (I.IV 44-45)
  • Thou shouldst not have been old till thou hadst been wise (I.IV 42).
  • Kent, who is disguised as a peasant, approaches Lear and offers to be his servant. By tripping Oswald, who had been disputing with Lear earlier because he had disobeyed the knights' orders, Kent successfully gains Lear's trust. The fool arrives and calls Kent and Lear both fools since Kent is trying to serve a fool and Lear gave up his land.
  • Goneril confronts Lear about the out-of-control knights and Lear feels betrayed and curses Goneril. He says things like how he hopes she becomes childless. He decides he will now be staying at his other daughter, Regan's place.
  • After deciding to travel to Regan's residence and dispatch Kent to deliver a letter to Gloucester, Lear is reminded by the fool of his foolish decision as King to give his throne and land, and the King prays that he doesn't lose his mind.
