Storyboard Text

  • Context: I worked with a student, who was in the second grade. He was struggling with reading, so we conducted some tutoring sessions and informal assessments "Came Alive" - This student enjoyed the one on one time together. We were able to discuss his interests before starting our assessments.
  • Task: L and I met for 5 weeks. During those 5 weeks, we assessed sight words and conducted fluency instruction. I also conducted an informal assessment to assess reading level.
  • Text: We used the books that L brought home from school. He was bringing home books that were at a 2nd grade reading level. We used Fry's phrase list to assess sight words.
  • Student: L is a struggling 2nd grade reader. He became easily frustrated at first. He struggled with decoding words in the beginning, but at the end of our sessions, he was more confident in his reading ability.
  • Teacher: My goal as a teacher was to give L some resources and skills that will help him to excel. I wanted to help build up his confidence and help him to grow as a reader.
