Storyboard Text

  • “You are fated to couple with your mother you will bring a breed of children into the light no man can bear to see—you will kill your father, the one who gave you life!”
  • The people of Thebes were suffering from the massacre of men induced by the Sphynx. When Oedipus came among Thebes, he was able to answer the Sphynx's riddle correctly. This made the Sphynx kill herself, making Oedipus the savior of Thebes, and the new crowned king.

  • What goes on four feet in the morning, two feet at noon, and three feet in the evening?
  • The priest and citizens of Thebes come to Oedipus to lift the citizens of their suffering and cure the plague. After an egotistical monologue, Oedipus says how he sent Creon to the oracle for an answer.
  • "Well I know you are sick to death, all of you, but sick as you are, not one as sick as I." (line 71-73)
  • After a painful search I found one cure: I acted at once. I sent Creon,, to Delphi learn what I might do or say to save our city.(line 80-84)

  • When Tiresias is introduced, Oedipus inquires him about the murder of Laius. When Tiresias withholds the truth, Oedipus gets increasingly angry and aggressive. Tiresias finally says that it was Oedipus who murdered Laius, and Oedipus is appalled and blames Tiresias and Creon for being behind the murder.
