- "Are you still on the phone Jan? Time to go to bed! It's getting late and I hope all homework is done"
- "Ok. Go to bed. We'll discuss this tomorrow"

- "Mom! I'm not done. I'm on the phone with Jael discussing homework"

- FAMILY MEETING
- "Jan, we have to talk about somethings that are not going well in the family"

- Jan! This house has rules and boundaries that each one must follow. If you have an issue, let’s talk!
- What?!?!?
- "Since you feel strongly about your concerns not being heard, let us agree on some mutual rules and sign our names to them, Ok? This would mean that we both would be responsible for our actions and the sanctions that go with breaking them"
- This arrangement sounds like blackmail, but at least we agree to take responsibility for our actions.
