- My name is Karim Amir.
- I am a englishman born and bread, almost. Englishman I am (though not proud of it), from the South London suburbs and going somewhere.
- Mom and Dad are often disapointed in me. Dad wants me to become a doctor. The fact is that they don't understand me. I am wondering if I am restless and bored because of my mixed heritage, my life in the suburbs, or the gloominess of my family.
- I am not better at school. I'd been punched and kicked to the ground by a teacher. The other kids liked to lock me and my friends in the storeroom. One kid tried to brand my arm with a red-hot lump of metal.
- Western culture : the music, the books, the contemporary journalism... I find Eva authentic, kind, humorous, intelligent and generous. As far as Charlie is concerned, I don't know what to think of him, he is however handsome and sexy.
- Jamila is more advanced than I, in every way. Reading Baudelaire, Colette and Radiguet... She isn't afraid to fight sexism and racism to make her place in society.
- Even though, my life isn't perfect, it seems to get better, I am filled with delight and excitement. I am finally in London where my life can finally begin.
