- Main conflict : Individual Vs. Supernatural. Meg, Calvin, Mr. Murry and the three Ms. W's return to Camazotz to save Charles from IT inside him.
- Individual Vs. Supernatural Meg, Calvin and Mr. Murry (Meg's Father) for forced to face IT and can't feel their own bodies"And she was afraid that she was going to lose consciousness, and if she did she would be completely in the power of IT."
- Minor conflicts: Induvial Vs. Induvial. While walking home from school Meg over heard another student saying something about her "Dumb baby brother," this then leads to a fight.
- Minor conflict : Internal Conflict. Meg tries to find herself to gain self-confidence
- Individual Vs. Society A boy that bounces his not in sync with the others is soon taken away and is forced to bounce his ball in a rhyme. The woman pushed the ball away. "Oh no! The children in our section never drop their balls! Their all perfectly trained"
