- Kino is a poor, young and a married man that lives near the beach with his wife, Juana, and their only son, Coyotito.
- Climax
- Coyotito gets bitten by a scorpion. The doctor rejects to see Coyotito because Kino has no money to pay for the treatment. So Kino tries to figure out a way to save Coyotito.
- Falling Action
- Kino finds a large pearl. Everyone gathers at their brush house and Kino tells his dream to everyone. The doctor cures Coyotito because Kino finds a pearl. An Intruder attacks Kino in the middle of the night. The pearl dealers turn down Kino because they say the pearl is fake.
- Resolution
- Kino is attacked the second time and Juana say the pearl is bad luck. Juana sneaks out with the pearl to throw it in the sea but Kino catches her and beats her up. Kino is beaten up while going to back home. Kino and Juana agree to leave town but their house is set on fire and the canoe has holes. So they hide out at Juan Tomas's house.
- Kino and his family leave town but they are followed by 3 attackers on horse. Juana and Coyotito hide on the mountain while Kino plans to attack the men. Kino kills the 3 men and his son dies too.
- Kino and Juana walk back to La Paz. Kino has the pearl in his pocket and Juana is carrying dead Coyotito. The people in town are shocked to see them but they walk pass everyone to the sea, where Kino takes the pearl out of his pocket and throws it into the water.
