- Victor, spurred on by the monster's laughing, abandons Geneva for good. Victor embarks on a high-speed pursuit to apprehend and destroy the beast that has been tormenting him for years. From Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea, Victor pursues the creature. They both board a ship destined for the Black Sea, travel via Russia, and cross the Arctic Circle.

- As they go north, the weather worsens. There is a scarcity of food and severe winter storms. Local villagers perceive the creature as armed and dangerous after he snatches a dog sled team. When the ice on which both are traveling begins to split and divide them, Victor gets within a mile of the monster.

- Robert Walton discovers Victor and his dying canine team dogs adrift on an ice flow in the Arctic Ocean at this time. If he doesn't, Victor urges Robert to keep fighting until the monster is defeated.

- Victor verifies his story by providing Felix and Safie's letters, according to Walton. Victor advises Walton to learn from his mistakes, stating that using knowledge for evil purposes would result in calamity. Walton consoles Victor in his final days, and the two pass the time talking about other things like literature when Walton finds that Victor has been narrating this narrative for a week. Robert is told by Victor that he must continue the quest to eliminate the monster. Walton laments the fact that he has discovered a buddy who appears to be on the approach of death in a letter dated September 2, 17 — and that his own attempt to seek a northwest Arctic route has failed. To recall, he writes to his sister to remember him fondly and to wish her family well.
- Walton writes in a letter dated September 5, 17 18, that Victor is now dying and that his ship is on the verge of mutiny. Before the ship gets crushed by the weight of the ice, the crew wishes to return to warmer seas. The crew agrees to drop their desire to move the ship southward to avoid certain death when Walton chastises them for their lack of adventure. Walton is in profound sorrow in the letter dated September 7, having fallen well short of his aim. He assures the team that if they are not destroyed, they will return to England.Even if Walton's ship returns home, Victor wishes to stay in this hostile climate in the book's final letter, dated September 12.
- The monster breaks into the ship's cabin where Victor's body lies in state. Walton and the monster startle each other and the monster begins to tell his part of the story when he began his reign of terror. The monster finds that he can gain no sympathy from man, so he pledges to remain in the frozen north until he dies. The monster tells that he has suffered along with Victor and made evil his version of good. The monster promises no harm to Walton or his crew and leaves the ship to live out his days in the frozen land of ice. To the monster, death is the only way to alleviate the agony he has felt since he was granted that ray of hope in Ingolstadt. "I shall proudly scale my funeral mound and rejoice in the anguish of the torturous flames," he promises. The creature leaps overboard from the ship and vanishes into the mist with this sentence.
