  • In the 1900's, there were concerns for the future of agriculture with the fear of world famine. There would be problems as its most predicted population would increase, especially in under-developed countries. Worries of there not being enough food to support the increasing population grew.
  • Scientists and most known Norman Borlaug realized this, starting their battle against world hunger, the beginning of the Green Revolution. In 1943, Norman Borlaug, a plant geneticist, and a team of researchers came on Mexican soil to pursuit his goal to improve agricultural techniques and biotechnological methods to solve starvation and help the living quality of developing nations.
  • Creating new genetically modified strains of wheat of rice maize and other crops with new techniques, Norman Borlaug helped successfully rescue third world countries from starvation. The Agricultural innovations brought the farmers in these countries skills and resources to sustain themselves, triggering the reaction of these once struggling nations to thrive and becoming self sufficient.
  • Soon in Mexico, the Rockefeller Foundation, who Norman Borlaug was hired as director, worked to a food source that was high yield disease and pest resistant, resulting in dwarf plants. They were also made to be short so they wouldn't easily be blown away by wind and absorb more nutrients from the soil.
  • Green revolution continued throughout many struggling nations bringing them success. Though some consequences were brought due to it. With GMO it used up more water that could dry out resources and pesticides, fertilizer, and chemicals that harmed the environment. It polluted water resources that cause diseases, cancer, and possible birth defects.
  • Despite the harmful consequences, it was necessary for it to feed the increasing population. The Green Revolution led to the modernization of agriculture and has had a profound social economic and political on the world.
