- Japan attacked pearl harbor in hopes to break them. They dropped bombs and torpedoes, destroyed American aircraft and ships, and caused a large amount of damage to the United States. But, they still fought back and the United States joined World War II and declared war on Japan.

- The Americans made their first attack on the Japanese, and they wanted to push back the American presence in the Pacific. The Japanese focused on attacking Midway, but the Americans launched torpedoes, which did not work, but later bombed them, sinking three of the four Japanese carriers. Later, Yortown engaged in battle with the last Japanese carrier, Hiryu. In the end, both carriers were sunk, but resulted in American victory.
