- Hey, the manager told me I must go home because I was late by 1 hour 30 minutes. He did not even gave me a chance to explain.
- Oh no! But there was a taxi strike, so it's not your fault.
- I am going home, I will come back tommorow.
- No you can not go home like that. Remember you belong to a trade union. S o you must talk to......
- Tracy, our elected shop steward!
- We select Tracy to be our shop steward!!!
- In this scene: Amanda was told by her manager to go home because she was 1 hour 30 minutes late. Amanda lives in Bellville and there was a taxi strike that day. Her manager did not even give her time to explain.Some workers are being mistreated at work by employers because of different reasons. The can be an extreme levels of unequal power balance in the employment relationship and this is usually the root of most workplaces.

- In this scene: Wendy re minds Amanda that she is not alone, she belongs to a trade union, and she has to speak to someone about this.Trade unions are organisations that protects employees by insuring that their rights are protected and reserved in the workplace. Aim of a trade unions is to any justices in the workplace.
- Good morning, can I have a moment of your time, please?
- In this scene: The ladies mentioned the name of their shop steward A shop steward is a trade union member that is elected to represent workers interest towards management and union. A shop steward plays a big role on the employment relationship.
- Ok Sihle, you can go home now I will speak to the manager and get back to you.
- As an elected shop steward, Tracey plays an important role in the union organisation. She is the main link between the members and her represents and her union. She has to inform her unions of what is happening with their members and also inform members of what is happening of their union.
- In this scene: Amanda went to Tracey's office to ask to speak to her. She explained to her about what happened that morning. Tracey listened carefully and asked some few questions in order to understand what the problem may be.A shop steward has to listen to fellow employees and give them racitional advice.
- In this scene: Tracey advises Amanda to go home, after she has realised that Amanda has failed to comply with some office policies. Amanda has been late before many times, but she was not given any official warning. Tracey promises Amanda that she will speak to the manager and get back to her.
