  • Some may argue that this freedom for teachers is a good thing - it allows them to teach with methods they like and teach what they think is important. However, this leaves a lot of room for teachers to approach race in a way that aligns with their personal beliefs, which is not necessarily the best way to approach it.
  • So how can teachers use this freedom to its benefit? Should Critical Race Theory be integrated into schools?
  • The main issue with CRT, and the reason why it's become the political issue it is today, is people do not actually know what CRT is. They read the initial definition and feel targeted, often not taking the time to truly understand the subject. CRT is attempting to dismantle systemic racism, by looking at our past and our present mistakes, and fixing them. 
  • So how can we fix this?
  • I suggest that Colby hold workshops about CRT for the public and specifically for educators so they can learn what it actually is, and how to approach racism in class. Also, Colby should publicly support movements made by the NEA and American Teachers Foundation to resist the ban on CRT in public schools. CRT doesn't necessarily have to be integrated into K-12 schools, but its actual definition and the intention of theorists should be more widely known.
