The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street: One theme that supports this story is: Fear and Suspicion can be Destructive. One piece of evidence that supports this theme is: When Steve is washing his car and talking to Don, When A bright flash goes off and so does the power, so everyone in the neighborhood goes outside to see if the same thing has happened to them. Pete Van horn then goes to see if it has happened to floral street. Les Goodman's car turns on by itself and everyone starts to blame him. Another piece of evidence is: After they failed to find a scapegoat and are extremely scared, They guard Les Goodman's house until Steve tried to stop it, Steve's wife says that hes been spending hours in the basement building a ham radio set and everyone tries to say that he is the person communicating to the aliens but fail to prove it, and leads to everyone being even more nervous and suspicious of everyone. Lastly, After everyone is very nervous and eager to find a scapegoat, Pete Van Horn returns but as he is walking, Charlie steals the shotgun from Steve and without thinking, Charlie pulls the trigger and kills Pete Van Horn. Everyone gathers around Pete Van Horn and then turn on charlie throwing rocks and stones at his windows and tries to kill him. Everyone breaks chaos and get weapons to fight then start killing each other and hiding and fighting. The aliens then leave and say how every maple street is the same, and how it is not unique at all and how they turn their mechanics off and they turn on each other and break chaos among them. These were my 3 Pieces of evidence why The theme Fear and Suspicion can destructive is most best for this story.
