Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • "THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way" (1)
  • Conflict
  • "A police photograph of Harrison Bergeron was flashed on the screen-upside down, then sideways, upside down again, then right side up. The picture showed the full length of Harrison against a background calibrated in feet and inches. He was exactly seven feet tall." (3)
  • Rising Action
  • "There was the shriek of a door being torn from its hinges" (4)
  • "SHRIEK! "
  • This introduces the time of the story and a little bit about what society is like in 2081. To make everybody equal, they have to handicap some people like Goerge, he was too smart so he has an earpiece that plays an annoying sound every 20 seconds.
  • Climax
  • "She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor" (5)
  • "She aimed it at the musicians and told them they had ten seconds to get their handicaps back on" (5)
  • This introduces the conflict that Harrison has escaped from jail. This is a person vs. society conflict because the news is broadcasting to everybody that Harrison is on the run and is making it seem like he's a threat to the entire society. Harrison also doesn't like how the society is run and wants to overthrow the government.
  • Falling Action
  • This builds up to the climax because it shows Harrison entering the studio and the employees are cowering in terror as he easily tears through a door.
  • Resolution
  • This shows the climax because Harrison disabled both his and the girls handicaps and was rebeling against the government. Then the head of the H-G walked in and shot them both dead.
  • This shows falling action because it is after the climax and it is starting to wrap up the story. This also shows how much power over the citizens the government has because Diana can just show up and start shooting and pointing guns at whoever she wants.
  • This shows the conflict getting resolved because George and Hazel just forget that their son was shot and Harrison is now dead so he can no longer attempt to overthrow the government. This also continues to show how much control the government has because people's memories are made so bad, they can't even remember something that happened minutes ago.
  • "'You been crying" he said to Hazel .'Yup,' she said. "What about?' he said. 'I forget,' she said. 'Something real sad on television'" (5+6)
