Storyboard Text

  • Have you ever wondered how water freezes to make ice cubes? Just like in what you're drinking right now
  • Yes! Now that you've mentioned it, I'm fascinated and curious.
  • Matter has three phases: solid, liquid and gas. Each has its own characteristics.
  • It has two properties: chemical and physical. Chemical pertains to how a substance can be converted to another substance.
  • This was taught to me during elementary. Go on, continue.
  • Physical is, on the other hand, can be observed and measured without matter changing into a different substance.
  • Physical is divided into 2: intensive and extensive. Intensive doesn't depend on the amount of the substance present. Whereas extensive depends on the amount.
  • It also undergoes 2 changes: physical and chemical change.
  • When matter changes form but not the chemical identity, it is physical
  • That's right! Chemical change occurs because of new chemical bonds. Hence, new products are formed.
  • And when it converts one material to another, it is chemical!
  • Chemical or physical changes are usually accompanied by an energy transfer.
  • If a change or reaction absorbs heat from its surroundings, it is classified as endothermic.
  • If heat is released, then it is exothermic. I clearly remember because I am a fan of a boyband called EXO.
  • That's absolutely right! Now you recall and know the properties of matter, changes it undergoes, and forms of energy involved.
  • Well, Irene, Chemistry is my favorite subject ever!
  • Phew! My brain is bleeding because of information overload, Angela!
