Storyboard Text

  • Inspector, i think Miss Birling ought to be excused from any more of this questioning... she's obviously had about as much as she can take.
  • You haven't finished asking questions...so I'm staying.
  • She feels responsible. And if she leaves us now, and doesn't hear any more, then she'll feel she's entirely to blame.
  • Why should you? It's bound to be unpleasant and disturbing.
  • I'm Mrs Birling, y'know. M husband has just explained why your here, and while we'll be glad to tell you anything you want to know, i don't think we can help you much...
  • No, of course not. He's only a boy.
  • I feel your beginning all wrong.
  • And he drinks far too much.
  • Isn't he used to drinking?
  • Mr Croft when did you first get to know her?
  • I met her first some time in March last year, in the bar at the palace...I happened to go down there one night...I didn't intend to stay down there long...I noticed a girl who looked quite different...This girl saw me looking at her and gave me a glance...then i told the girl...she'd better let me take her out of there...
  • We're you in love with her?
  • As The Inspector walks in Gerald suggests that Sheila ought to leave and go some where else, implying he does not want her to hear what he is about to say, but she insists on staying and listening to what he has to say.
  • Now, Sheila, I'm not defending him. But you understand that a lot of young men-
  • I think you'd better take this with you...
  • I see. Well, i was expecting this.
  • Mrs. Birling approaches and is bought up to speed.
  • First she called herself Mrs Birling... and naturally that was one of the things that prejudiced meagainsther case...
  • I did nothing i'm ashamed of or that won't bear investigation... I'll tell you what i told her. Go and look for the father of the child. It's his responsibility.
  • Mrs Birling spoke to and saw her only two weeks ago.
  • Was it owing to your influence...that help was refused to the girl?
  • Mrs. Birling finds out about Gerald's affair and is shocked.
  • Mother- I begged you and begged you to stop---
  •
  • SLAM!
  • As Gerald explains the details of his affair, how he was in love with her, and how he only approached Daisy Renton was because she needed help, which Sheila respected and understood, softening the blow. She then gives Gerald back the wedding ring and explains how they would need to get to know each other all over again if they were hoping for a relationship.
  • Don't interfere, please, Father. Gerald knows what i mean, and you apparently don't.
  • The Inspector moves on to Mrs. Birling, the family finds out Mrs.B was the last to interact with Daisy Renton. Mrs.B explains how she did not deem Daisy's case as deserving, therefore refused to help her. The family then finds out Daisy was pregnant and Mrs.B advises The Inspector to hold the father accountable and not them.
  • First, the girl herself...Secondly, i blame the young man...he'd be entirely responsible--- And he'd ought to be dealt with very severely...
  • Who is to blame then?
  • The Birlings are then shocked to find out that Eric is the father of Sheila"s child
  • My God! But look here-
  • I don't believe it. I won't believe it!
