Storyboard Text

  • When our teacher notices the group fighting, he rushes in and exclaims, "Stop! Fighting at school is prohibited!" Above all, he believes that following the rules is critical; otherwise, chaos will ensue and that he must support the norms that keep society working. Then I question myself, "What am I doing right now?" As a student, how can I preserve law and order?
  • There was once a brawl near our school. Two ninth-graders are beating up my classmate. I'm concerned about what's happening to one of my classmates, and I'd like to assist. However, I do not want to get punished because I am worried that my instructor will reprimand me if I get caught fighting. How can I avoid punishment, I think to myself?
  • I'm not sure how I feel about this as someone who observes from a short distance. Rules only make sense to me if they serve a specific purpose. Fighting is against the rules at school, but perhaps my classmate deserves to learn his lesson finally. He recently punched a young girl in first grade. I think to myself, "Does a rule serve all community members?"
  • One of my classmates, Mary, arrives in the situation and chooses to interfere and assist our classmate. She is aware that teachers may punish her, but she is also aware that she may become a victim one day. If she helps one of our classmates now, he may assist her in the future. I ponder this. What is the benefit to her?
  • Universal ethical ideals guide us in stage six. All those implicated must now face the headmaster. He begins by explaining the rules of the school and why they are in place. He goes on to say that restrictions are only valid if they are based on injustice. The need to disobey unfair norms comes with a commitment to justice. Compassion is the ultimate moral principle held by the headmaster. He believes that everyone should learn to comprehend each other's perspectives to not feel alone in their emotions. What are the abstract ethical concepts that assist his understandings of justice, I ask again?
  • I notice the battle and want to help, but I decide against it when I realize that everyone else is just watching. I want everyone to realize that I am a nice boy who follows the community's ethics. I ponder to myself, "What do other people think of me?"
