- We bring different kinds of food, technology, and religion.
- We'll bring Portuguese to Brazil.
- This trade is called the triangle trade because it was a triangle shaped trade among Europe, Africa, and the Americas. In south America the plantations economies prospered from the African slaves.
- Really? Thank you for explaining this to me!
- We created plantations and mines in Northern Latin America, but we realized we needed more help/labor. US and Portuguese Spaniards were the first to enslave indigenous peoples.
- However, they had no immunity to our diseases. Many had died. So, we started importing slaves from west Africa because they already shared immunity to our diseases.
- Slavery finally ended. We are now free men and women. We interacted with people in Latin America, some of us even got married and had children! This blended many cultures together creating unique cultures in Latin America.
- Because of the constant slavery in Latin America, we were forced to protest the discrimination and push for improved rights and living conditions. But, in small countries with little population, people of African descent are sometimes blocked from exercising their individual and political rights.
