  • In order to have physical wellness, you not only need to do physical activities but you must also have a healthy, balanced diet. Our dietary habits begin very early on in life. As we progress through life, many factors will influence whether or not we like certain food, like our environment, access to certain foods, etc.
  • How Society Contributes to Obesity
  • I know it's bad for me but its the only things close by.
  • Obesity is defined as when fat is excessively stored and accumulated in the body. If a person's weight is 20% or higher than what it should be, he or she is then considered obese. The cause for obesity is physical inactivity and poor diet choices. Issues associated with obesity is stroke, certain cancers, high cholesterol, breathing issues, and a number of other issues. Although obesity can be influenced by genetics, having a healthy physical routine and diet should help reduce weight.
  • Fad Diets
  • If you want to eat healthy foods, you need to choose foods that have highly dense nutrient foods. These nutrient dense foods contains high amounts of vitamin and mineral content. You need to have certain amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fats incorporated into your diet. You need 10-35% of protein, 45-65% of carbohydrates, and 20-35% of fats for a healthy diet. Unhealthy nutrient choices are foods that have high amounts of trans-fat and saturated fat. You also want to avoid foods that have "empty" calories in your diet, in other words, foods that have little calories have little nutrients. You also want to avoid high fructose corn syrup, a very sweet additive companies like to put in their products to sweeten the taste, Some products that have this are soda, candy, breakfast cereal, canned juice,, etc.
  • Later on in Life
  • Food advertisements as well as accessible food contributes greatly to obesity. Convenience stores, vending machines, fairs, etc all provide a array of unhealthy food choices. Marketers have a great way of making consumers buy their products. This, in turn, leads people to buy their products of foods containing high fructose corn syrup, soda, high sodium/salty snack items, etc. This could lead to your body not functioning properly which can have an affect on your social and mental/emotional wellness
  • Joe's Fries and Burgers Just Down the Street!!!
  • A fad diet is a diet that promises quick and fast weight loss through the means of an unbalanced and unhealthy diet. This diet especially aims at people who don't want to do physical exercise but wants to lose wight. However, the truth behind this is that you are actually just losing water weight instead of losing fat weight. Usually fad diets restrict certain foods for a short period of time. This in turn may cause health problems including dehydration, weakness, constipation, fatigue, etc.
  • Sorry, I can't eat meat. I'm on a fad diet.
  • I see... is that why you seem so pale nowadays?
  • Learning how to have a healthy diet now will help you later on in life. Having a healthy diet decreases your risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, etc. Creating a healthy, well balanced diet helps you get all the nutrients and minerals you need throughout the day as well as helps you maintain a healthy weight. Doing these steps will help your physical wellness and increase your social and mental/emotional wellness towards achieving total wellness.
