- In 1066 when Edward The Confessor was on his deathbed, he promised the crown of England to Harold Godwinson as he had no children or siblings to take it up for him.
- We killed Harald Hardraada and Tostig!
- Stamford Bridge
- Harold had been king for some time, but William, Duke of Normandy and Harald Hardraada of Norway each thought that they should be the king of England.
- Oh no...
- Sire! William is going to declare war on us from the South!
- William wanted to be king because when King Edward the Confessor lived in Normandy, he promised William the throne. Hardraada wanted to be king because, before Edward, his family ruled England.
- Let's go everyone!
- Godwinson had a brother, Tostig, whom he angered, because Harold took the throne instead of him, so, Harald Hardraada and Tostig Godwineson declared war on him. The war was called The Battle of Stamford Bridge, and during it, the Saxons emerged victorious and Harald and Tostig were killed, resulting in Harold keeping the crown.

- William got his army ready to fight against Harold, but the Normans were in the South, but the Saxons were all the way in the North, meaning that the Saxons had to march all the way to the other side of Britain.
- When they went to Hastings, they had to march 250 miles South to get there with no breaks, making them tired and unprepared for the battle to come.
- On the 5th of October 1066, the battle that decided the fate of England had begun.
- As the Saxon army were on the higher ground, they had the upper hand. The Saxons had a formation of shield walls that the Norman army could not get past. The Normans then started retreating as they thought that their king, Edward, was dead.
- When the Normans were thinking of giving up, William took his hat off to show that he was alive. William devised a plan to pretend to run away, so the Saxons could break their shield wall, and, at the last minute, they charged at the Saxons when they weren't ready.
- King Harold died, meaning that the Saxons lost and the Normans won The Battle of Hastings.
- Willliam's army came out to win, because of their flawless tactic, William's leadership skills and their teamwork.
