Hey, Lindsey! I am working on my assignment for science. I have to make a website, exlaining the water cycle.
Oh no.. Jimy, you do know that you can't just copy and paste pictures, videos, and graphic organizers you find online right??
You said what now.....???
COPYRIGHT & FAIR USEFOR KIDS
Lucky for you, Jimy, I have a presentation that I just created about copyright and fair use online!
Copyright and what???
EXCEPTION TO COPYRIGHT= FAIR USE
Well, for starters, when you create something on the internet, like your website, it is protected by copyright law. Nobody can copy and paste your work without your permission,
YOU'RE TELLING ME I CANNOT COPY ANYTHING FROM THE INTERNET??
Renee Hobbs from ISTE explains that we need to be able to make fair use judgement by asking a few questions while we research.
Fair use means it is okay for a person to reuse something that another person has created, in small amounts and for certain purposes, without breaking the law.
Great! So I can use info and media I find online in small parts??
IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:1. Am I adding value or re-purposing the material I am trying to use?2. Am I using too much of someone else's work?3. Could my work replace this, or is it meaningful on its own?
No problem, Jimy! Copyright&Fair use can be tricky. Make sure you tell your friends!
Wow, Lindsey! Thank you for telling me this, so I can avoid breaking copyright law! I have decided to make my own diagram to represent the water cycle.
