- Juvenile Justice Process
- Child is identified as a delinquent or unruly, or possibly tried as an adult. Child taken into custody by an intake officer.
- Intake
- The child receives an informal probation called " informal adjustment" or remains in the detention with the Department of juvenile Justice.
- Informal Adjustment: Determines if there was probably cause that the defendant co-mitted the crime.
- Petition:Documentation of the formal charges against the juvenile. "probably cause" and the juvenile justice process is the best decision for the child.
- Adjudication: Its similar to a trial in a adult justice system. A Judge reviews evidence hears testimony and determines guilt( as delinquent, unruly, or not guilty). No juries in juvenile court.
- Disposition: Similar to sentencing in the adult justice system. The possible outcomes are releases back into custody pf parents/guardian, Youth Development center, 30-day sentence, and Custody under the Department of Juvenile Justice.
