- "'Oh glory!"' (Hinton 90)
- Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally were driving back from Dairy Queen to Jay Mountain when Dally noticed that the church was on fire.
- Ponyboy and Johnny find out that there are still kids trapped in the church, so they both decide to hastily go into the church and save the kids, not fearing the blazing fire all around them.

- "'No, we're greasers'" (Hinton 95).

- "'Are you kidding me?"' (Hinton 95)
- They save all of the kids by throwing them out of the window and saving them from the aloof fire, but Johnny and Ponyboy were still inside of the flaming church.
- Johnny pushed Ponyboy out of the church right before the roof of the church came crashing down. Dally comes and hits Ponyboy on his back because his jacket was on fire.
- Ponyboy is loaded into the ambulance and talks to the people near him. He tells them that they were all greasers. He also explains that they were the ones that killed Bob, but no one believed him because they thought he was delusional.
- In the hospital, Ponyboy gets a visit from Darry and Soda. They all reunite and give big hugs all around. That was when Ponyboy finally starts using his head and realizes that Darry really does care about him.
