  • HUBRIS- ARROGANCE THAT IFTER FOLLOWS GREATNESS
  • Hubris- Frankenstein becomes so interested in natural philosophy, and was so confident that he came up with an idea. He was going to create a human body with parts from the grave. " I paused, examining and analysing all the minutiae of causation, as explempified in the change from life to death, and death to life, until from the midst of this darkness a sudden light broke in upon me- a light so brilliant and wondrous, yet so simple, that while I became dizzy with the immensity of the prospect which is illustrated, I was surprised that among so many men of genius who had directed their inquiries towards the same science, that I alone should be reserved to discover so astonishing a secret"(42)..
  • HAMARTIA- THE FATAL ERROR THE PROTAGONIST MAKES WHICH SEALS HIS FATE
  • Hamartia- Frankenstein created his monster, and he has now come to life. This fatal mistake will change his life forever. " For this I had deprived myself of rest and heath. I had desired it was an ardor that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart"(47).
  • ANAGNORISIS- THE MOMENT WHEN THE PROTAGONIST REALIZES HE HAS MADE A FATAL ERROR
  • anagnorisis- At this moment Victor sees the monster and realizes how bad he had messed up creating the monster. He killed William, his little brother, and was the cause of Justines death. It was all Victors fault, and he knew it. "Could he be (I shuttered at the conception) the murderer of my brother? No sooner did that idea cross my imagination, than I became convicted of its truth; my teeth chattered, and I was forced to lean against a tree for support. The figure passed me quickly and I lost it in the gloom''(62).
