  • My name is Luzena and I found a row of canvas tents, but a few months later, there were 2000 men and the streets were lined with drinking saloons and gambling tables
  • In conclusion, the California Gold rush brought the United States of America further away from the ideals equality and opportunity.
  • Our masters forced us to lie about our health so we would sell for more. We were purchased to increase the rate that cotton was produced and sold.

  • All of this information shows that the Second Middle Passage moved the United States away from all of the ideals.
  • Jackson made it a priority to remove American Indians that remained in the East, by any means necessary.
  • When Jackson became president there was only 125 thousand of us living east of the Mississippi. In 1830, Jackson passed the Indian Removal act, allowing himself to make treaties with us. Then, in 1831, Supreme Court said that we have a right to keep our sacred lands.
  • In treaties that we signed we would give up our land and move west in exchange for food, supplies, and money
  • However, Jackson disagreed with Congress and tribes that refused to move West were met with military force yielding tragic results.
  • This shows that The Indian Removal Act moved America further away from their ideals. The ideal that we moved furthest away from because of this act was equality.
  • Protests from American citizens were sent to Washington but the removal continued. 17,000 Cherokees were forced to move west and 4,000 died during the hard journey.
