- Here, Father, Mother and Jonas are explaining to Lily that the boy from the other community didn't know the rules and that she shouldn't feel angry.
- I guess not.. I apologize.
- Lily, do you feel angry now that you know the boy probably felt strange not knowing the rules of a new community?
- Yes Jonas, but they have all have been taught that these things are normal. That this is the way it has to be in order to continue to thrive as a community.
- I can't believe it! When people get released, they aren't sent Elsewhere, they get killed! My father just killed that baby! All this time, he's been lying!
- The Giver shows Jonas what release really is by showing him the "release" done by his father of a newborn twin boy.
- Jonas and Gabriel are hiding from the search planes after escaping the community with the Giver's help. He had taken Gabriel with him after his father told him that he would be released that morning.
- Don't worry Gabe, everything will be okay. No one will hurt you as long as I'm here. I love you.
