  • In this scene, Gordie gave Chase $2000 to pay back to his drug dealers. He planned to go inside with Chase, but he insisted that they wouldn't let either of them in if they saw Gordie. Gordie waited 20 minutes to check on Chase, and when he went in, he was gone. He had payed the dealers $500, then ran away with the rest. This scene is important to the story because it shows that Chase really hasn't changed, and shouldn't be trusted with money.
  • In this scene, Gordie went to visit Jade in the hospital because her mother's lungs had filled up with fluid. While Jade went to check to make sure she didn't need anything else, Gordie saw a little girl that dropped her unicorn. He gave the unicorn back, then realized who they were. They were Richard Cross' family. This scene is important because it really shows the impact of what Chase did.
  • In this scene, Gordie is talking to his school councilor. She is concerned about Gordie's grades, because he didn't hand in his essay, and didn't study for his test. She expresses her concern, and says that summer school might be the only option unless his grades improve. This scene is important because it shows how everything that is going on is affecting Gordie.
