- Claudius differs from John Wilkes Booth because he acknowledges and knows that he did the wrong thing. However, they both do not regret their decision in their killings. In Act 3 Scene 3, Claudius says "That cannot be, since I am still possessed Of those effects for which I did the murder: My crown, mine own ambition, and my queen." This means that he does not regret what he has done and he is enjoying the benefits that has come with it. In this scene, he also tries to find a way to ask God for forgiveness (But oh, what form of prayer Can serve my turn, “Forgive me my foul murder”?). We see religion in how he does believe in a God and is seeking a way that he can can continue to live the way he is. He says "In the corrupted currents of this world Offense’s gilded hand may shove by justice." This means that he knows that God does not approve of his actions and he asks the angels for help.
- John Wilkes Booth is different from Claudius because he believes that he did nothing wrong. However, they are the same in the sense that they do not feel bad for what they did. In Booth's diary we read "Yet I cannot see my wrong, except in serving a degenerate people.", this means that he does not think that he has done anything wrong, and if anything has done a great service to the people of the US. Religion plays a role into his story because he thought that he was doing "Gods work". However, after consideration, he comes to the conclusion that he will never be forgiven for the murder of Abraham Lincoln. Booth says "his last was not a wrong, unless God deems it so, and it’s with Him to damn or bless me". This means that he will not recognize his actions as a wrong unless God tells him so.
