- A few days before Christmas
- Look under your pillows, Christmas morning, and you will find your guidebook.
- My girls, will you give them your breakfast as a Christmas present?
- Dear me, I didn't know anyone was here!
- Each of the March girls will find a guidebook from under their pillows on Christmas morning, as they ought to have their roll of directions.
- Oh dear, how hard it does seem to take up our packs and go on.
- Marmee comes in and tells her daughters that there is a poor family nearby, hungry and cold. She asks the girls to give their Christmas breakfast to this family as a Christmas present.
- You know us!
- So I do! Will you come, please?
- Jo meets the Laurence Boy next door by accident, they both came to this room because they thought it was strange that they don't know anyone at the New Year's Eve party.
- The Piano suffers for want of use. Wouldn't some of your girls like to run over, and practive on it now and then, just to keep it in tune, you know, ma'am?
- Everyone was complaining about their 'burdens' at breakfast as they were in a bad mood.
- Laurie is sick and can't go out. Jo agrees to come over and read to Laurie and amuse him while he's sick. Their friendships improved significantly because of this.
- Mr.Laurence comes over to the March household. He tells Mrs. March that he would be grateful if one of the girls came over to play his piano sometimes to 'keep it in tune'.
