  • Introduction
  • Good morning grade 5 learners, today we have an interesting lesson. Before we start I have something for you guys.
  • Today’s lesson: Procedural writing
  • Introductory task
  • You have in front of you a recipe. your groups go through the recipe and then we will have a class discussion
  • This is recipe on how to make pancakes
  • Engaging with the new content
  • Procedural texts – texts that supply us with instructionsexample: recipes, directions, manuals and game instructionsExamples of procedural texts:Rules for games, recipes, directions, manuals and instructions.
  • Components of a recipe:· The title· The equipment· Ingredients· Instructions
  • For the activity, you must analyse the pictures and answer the questions. The pictures are showing how to prepare a certain dish.
  • The lesson will start with the teacher greeting the learners . The learners will group the learners in order to do an introductory task that elicits their prior knowledge.
  • Class activity
  • The teacher will give each group a recipe (an example of procedural writing).The learners must look at the recipe and engage with the content. The learners are required to study the recipe. The teacher will then engage in teaching and learning conversations with the class.
  • Consolidation
  • Okay, we are now going to discuss your answers for the class activity. Zandile what title did you give the recipe?
  • The learners will go back to their seats for the lesson. The teacher will write down the definition of procedural text then discuss the components of a recipe with the learners.
  • Exit slip
  • On a piece of paper, write down· What you learnt today?· What are you still confused about?
  • A recipe must have a title and instructions
  • The teacher will then hand out a worksheet. The worksheet will have pictures of how to prepare a dish. The learners are required to look at the worksheet and answer questions on it. The teacher will walk around the classroom to ensure that the learners are doing the activity.
  • The teacher will conclude the lesson by having a reflection session with the learners. They will discuss the answers to the activity and do corrections.
  • My title is: How to make spaghetti with vegetables
  • Exit slip - This activity will give the teacher an insight of what the learners have grasped and which concept they still need help with. The teacher will then collect the pieces of paper before the lesson ends
