  • Lady Macbeth is using the fact that Macbeth is a man to manipulate him by threatening his manhood. Lady Macbeth knows that he wont accept the accusal of being scared and weak so he ends up being convinced to murder the king. Men are expected to be individuals who are ruthless and fearless.

  • Tell thee — Macduff was from his mother's wombUntimely ripped.
  • Lady Macduff is complaining about how Macduff left her, his children, and his castle to go to England to help Malcom. This upsets her because men are suppose to protect his family and always be there for them which he learned soon after this.
  • (IV.III.219-221)

  • Dispute it like a man.
  • When Banquo first met the witches, he couldn't tell if they were actually women. Women are supposed to be pretty and not have any facial hair but since the women had beards, Banquo did not find them trustworthy.
  • (I.VII.54-59)
  • I have given suck, and knowHow tender 'tis to love the babe that milks me. I would, while it was smiling in my face, Have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums And dashed the brains out had I so sworn as you have done to this.
  • The witches said that no one born of a women could kill Macbeth but they believe that giving birth 'unnaturally" doesn't mean you actually gave birth. Its stereotyped that you had to naturally birth a child for it to be a true birth.
  • When Malcom tells Macduff to dispute it like a man, he is suggesting that he should fight Macbeth. Men are supposed to settle things with violence and be strong. Also, Macduff says he is going to feel it as a man which refers to the idea where real men allow themselves to feel emotion.
  • This Scene shows how Lady Macbeth is breaking the gender stereotype because women are supposed to be loving and caring as well as sensitive people but she is talking about killing a baby. This goes to show how much Lady Macbeth is willing to do just for them to gain as much power as they could.
