Texto do Storyboard

  • Around 3.5 billion years ago, the first life emerged as prokaryotes
  • The most plausible theory for first life is called the abiogenisis theory, life forming from inorganic matter
  • This theory was created by scientists named Harold Urey and Stanley Miller. They replicated early life conditions in their expiriment that proved that amino acids could be created on early earth.
  • Look! There is one of the first prokaryotes! Notice how it has a double membrane of the outside.
  • I am a prokayrote
  • Look what is happening!
  • Around 1.8 billion years ago, these cells began to absorb other cells, but did not digest them. Scientists say that the prokaryotic cell "ate" much smaller organisms.
  • These absorbed cells began to perform tasks and functions, creating eukaryotic cells
  • That theory is called the endosymbiotic theory and is one of two that are the most prominent in science today
  • The other is called the autogenic theory
  • The membrane of these cells acuatlly folded in on itself creating organelles that we see today, such as the nucleus. Thats why we see a double membrane!
  • I am now a eukaryote
  • Double membrane
  • This theory states that the prokayrote slowly evolved into a eukaryote over millions of years.
  • I'm glad I could take you on this jouney on how liofe evolved on Earth. Our history is very important to knowing how we came to be!
  • The three theories of how life emerged are very important to modern day science and without them, it would be very difficult to figure out where life came from!
