- In chapter 14, Holden is in his room in Edmont Hotel and the chapter starts with a flashback to a memory of Holden with his brother Allie. Holden is depressed and tries to talk with his dead brother.
- Allie, go home and get your bike and meet me in front of Bobby Fallon's house.
- What are we going to do, Bobby?
- We can shoot something with our BB guns.
- Can I join you?
- No. You cannot, Allie.
- After Holden recalls this memory of regret, Holden tries to find a way to comfort himself.
- At last, I got into bed. I wish I could pray and feel better. Why can't I pray?
- I may be kind of an atheist but I'm better than those annoying Disciples.
- I love Jesus and that poor lunatic man, who lived in the tombs, more than those good for nothing Disciples.
- Arthur told me that if I loved Jesus, I had to respect his choices about the Disciples.
- Old Child was right about one thing, though. Although I love Jesus, it's a shame that I didn't got to church. It's because I had my reasons.
- Arhut Child - Holden's religious friend from Whooton and he knows the Bible well.
