  • Pip arrives in London and is in awe of the immensity of the place. He is getting ready to go to Mr. Jagger's office. Pip arrives at his office and has to wait. Later, Mr. Jaggers arrives and tells Pip that he will go and live at Barnard's Inn with Mathew Pocket's son.
  • Chapter 24
  • You will be educated to be a gentleman
  • Wemmick, Mr. Jagger's clerk, takes Pip to Barnard's Inn which is where he will be staying with Mathew Pocket's son. Pip waits for his roommate to return to let him into his room. When he arrives, Pip recognizes him as the pale gentlemen he fought at the Satis house years back.
  • Chapter 27
  • The pale young gentleman's name is Herbert Pocket. Pip and Herbert are talking in their living room and are amazed to meet each other again after many years. Herbert explains that he was going to be a possible suitor for Estella, but he was rejected. Later during dinner, Herbert explains to Pip about Miss Havisham's story of how she was betrayed by her suitor and how it devastated her.
  • Chapter 28
  • Pip learns about his tutor's wife, Mrs. Pocket, and how she was basically raised to be married into nobility. She didn't learn any real skills and is basically useless since she is not able to take care of the kids. Pip meets his tutor, Mr. Pocket, and he shows Pip his room. He also introduces Pip to two students named Bentley Drummle and Startop.
  • Chapter 29
  • Mr. Pocket tells Pip that he will be educated on how to be a gentleman. Pip and Mr. Pocket get along really well. Later Pip decides to go get money from Mr. Jaggers to rent a room at Barnards Inn to stay with Herbert.
  • Pip got a letter from Biddy about how Joe is coming to London to come visit him. Pip prepares for the visit by decorating it with luxurious things. Joe arrives the next day and Pip can see how awkward his manners are. Joe talks about how Mr. Wopsle is pursuing becoming an actor. Joe also tells Pip that he only came to London to be a messenger for Miss Havisham. The message he had to give was that Estella has come home and wants to see Pip.
  • I am a messenger for Miss Havisham
  • Pip arranges to go back to his hometown because of Joe's message. Instead of staying with Joe when he goes back home, he instead decides stays at the Blue Boar. In his ride to town, he rides with 2 convicts and Pip recognizes one of them as the one who gave him money at the Blue Boar. When Pip arrives at the Blue Boar, he sees a newspaper that shows Mr. Pumblechook taking credit for Pip's fortune to increase his reputation.
  • Pip travels to the Satis House and when he arrives there, he is surprised to see Orlick working there now. After some words with Orlick, Pip heads into the Satis House and sees Estella for the first time in many years. He notices how beautiful she became. Estella and Pip walk around in the garden and talk about old times. Later, Miss Havisham tells Pip that he must love Estella.

  • Since Pip has the playbill for Mr. Wopsle's performance for Hamlet, Herbet and him decided to go and watch. At the performance, Mr. Wopsle made a fool of himself and didn't play Hamlet well. Pip feels bad for Mr. Wopsle and decides to invite him for dinner.
  • Chapter 35
  • Pip gets a letter from Estella about how she is coming to London and Miss Havisham wants Pip to meet her at the coach. At the coach station, Pip eagerly waits for Estella. He is wiping off the dust on him and finally he sees Estella
  • Chapter 36
  • Estella and Pip get are taken to a private sitting room to have tea and talk. Estella tells Pip that she will live in Surrey, Richmond with a lady. She also tells Pip that he has been slandered by the Pockets excluding Matthew Pocket. Estella lets Pip kiss her on the cheek which makes Pip happy.

  • Since Pip has a lot of money, he spends recklessly to have fun which also influences Herbert to spend recklessly. They are able to spend so much because they join a fancy club called Finches of the Grove. This causes both Pip and Herbert to go into debt and one evening they have to add up all their debts. Pip wants to cover Herbert's debt but, he knows he will not let him.

  • Mrs. Joe died and Pip came back to the forge for the funeral ceremony. Mr. Trabb hosted it and directed everything to create a formal funeral.
  • Pip is 21 now and is able to receive his fortune. He will receive 500 pounds a year. Mr. Jaggers tells Pip that he won't reveal who is benefactor is today. He also talks to Pip about how he is in debt and needs to manage it properly. Pip wants to use some of his money to help Herbert with his debt, but Wemmick is against the idea.
  • You will receive 500 pounds a year. I will not reveal your benefactor today.
  • Pip's love for Estella causes him to visit her many times at Richmond. Pip watches how she treats her suitors, while ignoring Pip. One day, Estella tells Pip that he must accompany her to the Satis house. They went together there and for the first time, Pip saw Miss Havisham and Estella arguing
  • Pip is now 23. Herbert and Pip have moved to the Temple in Garden Court for nicer rooms. One night, Pip hears a mysterious person outside his room and lets him in for a drink. Pip realizes that this is the convict he helped many years ago and the convict reveals that he is Pip's benefactor. Pip almost faints from this shock. The convict needs a place to stay so Pip gives him Herbert's room and Pip
